Tania completed both her graduate and postgraduate degrees at the Guildhall School of Music in London on full scholarship, where she studied with David Theodore, Principal Oboe of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. She was the first Queenslander to win the much-prized Australian Music Foundation award (in London), as well as the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Prize.
Before joining the Southern Cross Soloists in 2001, Tania was Principal Oboe with the Israel Opera Orchestra in Tel-Aviv. She toured Europe with this orchestra and performed and recorded many oboe concertos, most recently the Strauss Oboe Concerto.
As part of the Movelan Wind Quintet, Tania was first prize winner at the Coleman International Music Competition in Los Angeles, and has toured the US several times since.
Her extensive orchestral career includes playing Principal Oboe with some of the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors. These include The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta.and Valery Gergiev. She was Principal Oboe in 1992 and since then has appeared with the Orchestra on many occasions as Guest principal Oboe.
Tania has also played with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival orchestra in Germany under Lorin Maazel, Rostropovich and George Solti.
Tania toured the US as Guest Principal Oboe with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
She toured Europe with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, at the invitation of its Chief Conductor, Edo de Waart. She was singled out by the London Times as ‘a player of quality’ for her performance with the Sydney Symphony at the London Proms.
She has toured with Norway’s Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal Chamber Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony.
In Australia, Tania has performed with most of the major orchestras, and was Principal Cor-Anglais with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In 2005 she will be the Principal Oboe of the world-class Australian Chamber Orchestra under Richard Tognetti.
Tania is an experienced and dedicated teacher and is Oboe Lecturer at the Queensland Conservatorium.
