Mozart is probably the finest of all composers for wind instruments, a fact obvious not only from his concertos and chamber music specifically written for winds, but also from his use of wind instruments in the orchestra. Unfortunately, most of his chamber music for winds is written for larger ensembles than Southern Cross Soloists, and it is in order to remedy this situation that we have created this arrangement. Mozart, like most other classical composers, wrote a considerable amount of music for piano duet. There are at least four sonatas and a number of other works, which are rarely performed in concert these days. These delightful pieces are particularly well suited to arrangement for wind quartet as the music written for the four hands of the pianists can be transcribed fairly directly for the four instruments of the quartet.

The Sonata is typical of Mozart at his breeziest and most high-spirited. A vigorous opening Allegro, is followed by a lyrical Andante, and a rollicking finale, full of exuberance and fun.
