Australia (2004)
Australia is the second CD in Southern Cross Soloists’ International Collection. We are very proud of the Australian repertoire we have assembled since we formed in 1995, and even more proud of the response from audiences around the world to this music, it has been both inspiring and exhilarating. This CD is a combination of music for various groupings within our ensemble and is, I feel, a glowing representation of the brilliance and variety of Australian composition. We sincerely thank our supporters at home in Brisbane who have been a constant source of encouragement in the continued development of this important part of our repertoire.

LIVE (2002)
A collection of live performances of Southern Cross Soloists taken from their annual Brisbane Showcase Subscription Series. The work by Handel, which was recorded at the ABC Studios in West End in 1998, remains one of the most popular items from our Baroque repertoire. The other three pieces were recorded in the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University Theatre, the hall that has become the Soloists' home since they became Ensemble in Residence at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in 1999. All concerts given by the Soloists in Brisbane are recorded by 4MBS Classic FM 103.7 and this disc was made possible by their Outside Broadcast Unit's generous donation of skill and time.

NINA! (2002)
A few years ago I heard that our state Arts Minister, the Hon. Matt Foley had Noël Coward’s famous song Nina! in his repertoire. When he agreed to be guest speaker at our 2001 Fund Raising Dinner, a plan was hatched for me to ask him to sing it with us. (Peter Luff had been performing Sean O’Boyle’s arrangement of Nina! since our 1998 Canadian tour, in fact he brought the house down with it in New York).
When we came together for our rehearsal with Matt two days before the dinner, I felt a little unsure as to how it would go. Well, we were all completely stunned by Matt’s performance that afternoon, and at the dinner he had them literally standing on their chairs screaming. It was magic! Gary Thorpe from 4MBS Classic FM told me that night we just had to record it. So here it is, resplendent with a Karoake version for you to enjoy in the privacy of your own living room, or to impress friends at dinner parties.
Also on the CD is one of our favourite performances of four American Songs by Aaron Copland, where we all have a bit of fun with our mouthpieces in I Bought Me a Cat. We have also included the last two movements from Peter Luff’s arrangement of Moussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, taken from our Russia CD. Thanks Nina!, thanks Noël, thanks Matt!

Russia (2000)
I have great pleasure in introducing you to the first of our international series of CDs: Russia which features Peter Luff’s dynamic arrangement of Moussorgsky’s classic Pictures at an Exhibition. I thank him very much for undertaking this huge task and for proving to me I can change from E flat to B flat to bass clarinet within one single page of music. One always associates Russian music with rhythmic drive and exquisite melody and this disc has plenty of both. My only dissappointment is that my friends in Southern Cross would not let me call the disc… “From Russia With Luff”.

CONCERT SAMPLER (1998)
The selections on this disc are taken from recordings of live performances given by Southern Cross Soloists during 1997 and give a broad overview of the range and variety of the repertoire performed by the group. From the baroque splendour of Bach and the neglected delights of Spohr and Kreutzer to the classical beauty of Beethoven, the 20th Century vigor of Mageau (specially composed for the Southern Cross Soloists) and the stylish wit and charm of Coward, this programme is typical of those which have so delighted their audiences.
As a bonus, we have also included Sean O’Boyle’s beautiful “Sunrise on the Coast” from the song-cycle “Songs of the Pen”, written specially for the Southern Cross Soloists.
