The Southern Cross Soloists are very keen to foster musical education throughout Queensland. They have focussed on improving instrumental education and exposing young people to a professional ensemble.
The Regional Education Component (REdC), a concept devised by the Southern Cross Soloists and MajorPlayer Enterprises in Rockhampton. includes concerts, private lessons and masterclasses, encompassing, but not limited to. topics such as Music as a Career, Preparing and Presenting an AMEB Exam, How to Teach and Play Double Reeds, and Vocal Strength and Projection.
The Southern Cross Soloists mentor the YACA wind quintet, a collection of talented musicians from the Australian Youth Orchestra. In November 2005 they will visit Cairns to share their gifts with local musicians and teachers.
The Southern Cross Soloists have travelled to Townsville, Mackay, Bundaberg, Cairns, Nambour and Armidale.
SCS has partnerships to encourage this initiative with:
• Major Player Enterprises in Rockhampton
• Central Queensland University in Mackay
• Australian Youth Orchestra
