DescriptionWords: Paul VerlaineNarrator: Eugene GilfedderGuest artist: Slava GrigorianMusic: The songs of Faure, Debussy, Hahn & Gerard BrophyPaul Verlaine was one of the most exquisitely lyrical poets in the history of French literature. Admired for the musical qualities of his verse, the simplicity and directness of his expression and his ability to create moods and feelings through the magic of words, many composers have attempted to turn his verse into music. In this program we hear settings of his texts by Faure, Debussy, Brophy and Hahn including, most interestingly, no fewer than four settings by different composers of La Lune Blanche, intersperced by readings of his poems. Internationally acclaimed guitarist Slava Grigorian adds his unique brilliance to this program. The poetry will be read by ever-popular Brisbane actor, Eugene Gilfedder. Venue
