- - - - - -

The first concert of our first series at QPAC commences with one of Mozart's finest concert arias, Ch'io mi scordi di te? This work features a brilliant piano obligato composed for Mozart to perform himself. Recent works by two of Australia's outstanding choral composers, Paul Stanhope and Stephen Leek follow, and will be performed by the Soloists with the magnificent St Peter's Choral. The final work in the program by Mendelssohn (arr Dean) sees the Choral return to the stage to join Southern Cross Soloists and narrator Gregory Massingham in a stunning new version of the breathtakingly evocative incidental music to Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Description

From QPAC's website:

The QPAC Concert Hall is one of Australia's most spectacular concert venues. The magnificent architecture and acoustics work to deliver a truly memorable performance to each of the 1,600 seats front of stage. The seating capacity can expand to 1,800 when the choir balcony seats are used. [It can also be reduced to around 400 seats when used in "reverse mode", with the audience contained within the choir stands. It is likely this is how the Hall will be used for Southern Cross Soloists performances.]

Although primarily designed for orchestral performances, the Concert Hall displays a versatility that adapts to a range of events including popular music, jazz, stand-up comedy, graduation ceremonies and award presentations. Towering above the stage, the magnificent Klais Grand Organ, with its impressive array of 6,500 pipes, forms the central architectural focus of the space.
