Multi-award winning flautist Wissam Boustany joins the Soloists to celebrate the release of their most recent CD, France. London-based Boustany is formerly Principal Flute of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Once of the few flautists to have established an international solo career, Boustany will bring his dazzling virtuosity to this sublime program. The seductive beauty of Ravel’s Sheherazade contrasts with the irrepressible wit of Poulenc’s Sextet. One of Handel’s finest Italian cantatas, a hauntingly beautiful work by a major figure in American music, and the Australian premiere of Isobe’s scintillating variations on Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star complete this delectable feast.

Description

From QPAC's website:

The QPAC Concert Hall is one of Australia's most spectacular concert venues. The magnificent architecture and acoustics work to deliver a truly memorable performance to each of the 1,600 seats front of stage. The seating capacity can expand to 1,800 when the choir balcony seats are used. [It can also be reduced to around 400 seats when used in "reverse mode", with the audience contained within the choir stands. It is likely this is how the Hall will be used for Southern Cross Soloists performances.]

Although primarily designed for orchestral performances, the Concert Hall displays a versatility that adapts to a range of events including popular music, jazz, stand-up comedy, graduation ceremonies and award presentations. Towering above the stage, the magnificent Klais Grand Organ, with its impressive array of 6,500 pipes, forms the central architectural focus of the space.
