SXS Next Gen Artists Program
Southern Cross Soloists has a long history of award-winning educational and mentoring programs, providing support, instruction and encouragement to the next generation of musicians. The SXS Next Gen Artists Program offers mentorship to a select group of emerging artists, as well as paid professional experience in our expanding regional, education and community programs.
We are aware that most Queensland music performance graduates will make careers as portfolio artists across a range of small-scale freelance and teaching projects; an alternative to the limited number of permanent orchestral roles. Chamber ensemble skills are vital to all music career paths. The SXS Next Gen Artists program provides young musicians the opportunity to hone these skills by working with and performing alongside the members of Southern Cross Soloists.
Previous Next Gen Artists: the Armilla Quartet (violin - Helena Wang, Matilda Watkins; viola - Sariah Xu; cello - Georgia Shine), the Meraki Quartet (violin - Phoebe Masel, Claire Weatherhead; viola - May Bardsley; cello - Hannah Harley), Anna Coe (flute), Annie Larsen (clarinet), and John Rotar (composer/arranger).
