A&I Hall, Bangalow

BMF’s Quartet in Residence, the Orava Quartet returns to the A&I Hall stage with an intriguing program of stunningly beautiful music. De Falla’s vigorous farruca from his comical ballet, the Three Cornered Hat opens the concert followed by Bax’s evocative oboe quintet that conjures up lush green images of Ireland juxtaposed with the intense backdrop of the Irish War of Independence. Shostakovich’s shortest but possibly most beautiful string quartet follows with his intensely powerful Quartet no 7. Pavel Fisher’s Moravian heritage comes through in his joyous and earthy Mad Piper String Quartet and the concert concludes with the sights and sounds of Tchaikovsky’s favourite Italian city in his magnificent string sextet, Souvenir de Florence.
