The Enchanted Virtuoso showcases the incredible virtuosity of the festival artists in a program that promises to dazzle and captivate. The concert opens with Vivaldi’s viscerally emotive Cello Concerto in G minor performed by Jonathan Békés, and Porpora’s stunning Farinelli aria that evokes the spirit of the human soul, performed on the oboe. SXS’s James Wannan and Alan Smith perform the World Premiere of a new work by SXS Composer in Residence John Rotar. SXS’s Jonathan Henderson and Emma McGrath join forces to perform Telemann’s thrilling and equally tender Concerto for Violin and Flute. SXS Horn virtuoso, Nick Mooney performs Mozart’s lively ‘hunting horn’ concerto written for Mozart’s good friend, Joseph Leutgeb and the concert concludes with the intensely dramatic and turbulent Weber Clarinet Concerto no 1 performed by SXS’s clarinet superstar, Ashley Smith.
