Applications open: Margaret Schindler Vocal Scholarship 2026

SXS are now accepting applications for the 2026 Margaret Schindler Vocal Scholarship (MSVS) which is generously supported by Carolyn Mason.


Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) is proud to continue its long-standing commitment to nurturing Queensland’s next generation of vocal artists through the Margaret Schindler Vocal Scholarship (MSVS).


Named in honour of acclaimed soprano and pedagogue Margaret Schindler, the scholarship provides a vital bridge between tertiary study and professional performance, supporting outstanding emerging singers as they transition into their careers.


Eligibility and Application Guidelines

Applicants must:

  • Be in their graduating year of tertiary study or have graduated within the past two years

  • Be based in Brisbane for a minimum of six months in 2026, to enable participation in SXS rehearsals and performances

  • Submit a 10-minute video recording showcasing contrasting repertoire, such as a blend of operatic, art song, and chamber music works.(Students are encouraged to record excerpts from their final recitals.)


Scholarship Benefits

The Margaret Schindler Vocal Scholarship offers a unique combination of mentorship, performance, and professional development. The recipient will:

  • Receive 10 private lessons with Margaret Schindler, fully funded by SXS

  • Be offered professional performance opportunities within the SXS season

  • Collaborate closely with the SXS Artistic Director, with all performance repertoire to be approved by Margaret Schindler

This structure ensures each MSVS recipient gains meaningful exposure to the realities of a professional music career while being guided by one of Australia’s most respected vocal educators.


Submission are due by Monday 9am, 1st December 2025, with notification of your application by the end of January.
